The federal government is set to collaborate with Brazilian livestock giant JBJ Brazil to establish a 100,000-hectare cattle ranch in Niger State to boost the country’s livestock production.
Minister of Livestock Development, Malam Idi Mukhtar, announced the initiative during a meeting with Niger State Governor Umaru Bago in Minna on Monday .
This project is part of a broader $2.5 billion investment agreement with JBJ Brazil, which is recognized as the world’s largest cattle rancher. The ranch will utilize Niger State’s rich resources, including its plentiful water supply and favorable climate conditions.
In support of this initiative, the Niger State Government has committed 1.2 million hectares of land, allocating 100,000 hectares specifically for the ranch.
Mukhtar noted that financial negotiations with JBJ Brazil and other potential investors are still in progress, underscoring the project’s development stage.
This partnership aims to enhance Nigeria’s livestock sector and contribute to the country’s agricultural growth. END
