One Acre Fund, an international organization dedicated to supporting farmers, has announced plans to distribute over six million tree seeds to 220,000 smallholder farmers in Niger, Kwara, and Nasarawa states.
The initiative aims to encourage farmers to plant a significant number of trees to safeguard the environment and combat deforestation. This year’s distribution surpasses the number of tree seeds provided to farmers in the previous year.
Speaking at an empowerment program held in Minna, Mr. Adetola Adegbite, the Country Director of One Acre Fund, emphasized the organization’s commitment to equipping farmers with the necessary resources for success in agriculture and ensuring the well-being of their families.
“Our goal for 2024 is to distribute six million tree seeds to 220,000 farmers across Niger, Nasarawa, and Kwara states,” stated Mr. Adegbite.
“We strive to reach farmers who have not received assistance previously and promote sustainable farming practices within our communities, “ he said.
Attendees of the program expressed gratitude to One Acre Fund for their invaluable support to farmers in Niger State.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Salihu Bawa Bosso, commended the organization for their efforts in advancing agriculture within the state.
Every year, One Acre Fund hires fleets of trucks to deliver tens of thousands metric tons of seeds and fertilizers to hundreds of villages and farmers in Africa.
One Acre Fund works with millions of smallholder farmers across Africa to equip them with the supplies and training they need to thrive.
