The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched a stakeholders’ engagement for the 2025 National Preparedness and Response Campaign (NPRC) aimed at mitigating flood disasters in Kwara State.

Held on Friday, the event focused on building resilience and improving disaster preparedness and response, with the theme: *“Strengthening Resilience: Enhancing Preparedness and Response.”*

It brought together key stakeholders including government officials, security agencies, religious groups, and community leaders.

Zubaida Umar, Director-General of NEMA, represented by Assistant Director of Disaster Risk Reduction, Opara Chinwe, said the initiative underscores the importance of collaboration and coordination in disaster risk management.

She noted that forecasts from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) indicate that several local governments in Kwara may be affected by flooding in 2025.

She described the campaign as a crucial step to prepare communities and reduce flood-related damage.

Also speaking at the event, Secretary of Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Malam Saadu Mogaji, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to proactive flood mitigation strategies.

He called for proper coordination and urged residents to follow safety advisories during the rainy season.

Mogaji highlighted the importance of collective efforts, adding that such engagement helps build stronger, safer communities and protects lives and property.

As part of the outreach, NEMA and SEMA also conducted sensitisation campaigns in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area, to raise awareness about the anticipated flood risks and safety measures.
