Navy raises the alarm over fake maritime security outfits

The Nigerian Navy (NN) has expressed concern over the increasing activities of fake maritime security organizations that use naval uniforms and accoutrements to deceive and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

This is according to a statement by the naval spokesman, Ayo-Vaughan, recently.

He explained that these outfits go as far as conducting secret recruitment exercises and training, despite the proscription order by the Federal Government of Nigeria that bans all such organizations.

Ayo-Vaughan warned that their activities could lead to a rise in maritime crime if not checked. He further assured that the Navy is committed to securing the maritime environment for the safety of lives and properties, as well as for the conduct of legitimate maritime commerce, and will leave no stone unturned in its bid to achieve this.
