The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Moji Adeyeye, has warned that all unregistered table water producers operating under unhygienic conditions in Kano will be sealed off.

Adeyeye gave the warning at the National Delegates Convention of the Association for Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWAP) held in Kano, stressing that the agency would not hesitate to shut down any non-compliant company.

Represented by NAFDAC’s Kano State Coordinator, Tshiamo T. Tanimowo, the director-general emphasized that table water production is directly linked to public health and must meet strict sanitation and hygiene standards. She said any unregistered facility found operating would face immediate closure.

Speaking at the event, the outgoing National President of ATWAP reflected on the association’s challenges over the years, including regulatory pressures, internal disputes, industry fragmentation and economic uncertainty.

She noted that despite these obstacles, members chose collaboration and reform to strengthen the body.

According to her, from 2017 to date, spanning two four-year terms, the association has repositioned itself into a more structured and inclusive professional organization with growing national and international recognition.

She also disclosed that ATWAP became a certified member of the International Water Association in 2023, adding that the body has since improved engagement with regulators and promoted stronger compliance standards across the industry.
