Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has inaugurated a new cereal processing factory to enhance exportation of maize flour to neighboring countries.
According to the president when inaugurating the plant on Thursday, the new cereal plant will boost industrialization in the country based on local value chains, making the country more self-sufficient in food production.
Moreso, it will reduce the rate of unemployment and modernize the local productive capacity.
The president said the processing unity adds value to the agriculture sector, and it will help stabilize the prices in the external market and boost the export of maize flour to neighboring countries, the state-run Radio Mozambique has reported.
With the processing unity running and its additional storage capacity, the government expects the country’s reserves to be enough to solve problems in case of shortage or over-production, says the report.
Launched in August 2021, the national Industrialize Mozambique program aims to reduce imports with competitive exports, to modernize the local productive capacity as well as to increase employment and generate income.
