Masquerades have invaded a mosque located at Oluode Aranyin area of Osogbo capital of Osun State.
The masquerades were seen throwing stones at the worshippers which left many injured during the attack on Sunday.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to the Nation, one person has been reportedly killed.
The eyewitness said the reason for the invasion by the masquerades was not yet known but those that were injured have been taken to the hospital.
However, custodian of the masquerades, Fashola Esuleke, denied the allegation.
He said: “We started the masquerade festival on Friday. On Sunday we are walking through Olu-Ode Aranyin and we were walking around the area when the Muslim faithful attacked us and tried to unclad the Masquerade.
“We escaped the scene and the Muslim wanted to kill the masquerade. The police and Agbekoya rescued the masquerade from the scene. We don’t know anything about the killing. Our men are even injured when they attacked us.”
Spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed they have arrested some people in connection with the attack.
NatureNews gathered that similar development has occurred in Ikun Ekiti, Moba Local Government of Ekiti state in 2017 as masquerades attacked Muslims while breaking their fast in a Central Mosque.
Also, it was reported that a Church service was reportedly disrupted by four masquerades who flogged the pastors and the worshipers in Epinmi Akoko area of Ondo state in 2015.
