Fishermen from the Okpoama Community in the Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have rescued two Sao Tome and Principe nationals who were lost in the Atlantic Ocean.

The two fishermen, identified as Antonio Sabino and Osorio Pires, aged 52 and 41 respectively, from Neves in Sao Tome and Principe, were reportedly lost in the Atlantic Ocean.

Information made available to Naturenews stated that the distressed fishermen had been lost for five days in the Atlantic Ocean before they were rescued by a fishing trawler in the Gulf of Guinea. They were then handed over to fishermen from Okpoama on the Atlantic coast of Brass, who brought them ashore.

The Chairman of the Okpoama Kingdom Security Committee, Munalayefa William-Sinte, commented on the incident, saying, “The malnourished and frail-looking men were clothed and fed before being handed over to the police for necessary action.”

The spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Bustwat, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that the police authorities in the state have established contact with the authorities of Sao Tome and Principe to reunite the fishermen with their families.

“The police authorities have established contact with a coast guard officer from Sao Tome and Principe and are making concerted efforts to reunite the fishermen with their families,” the Police PRO said.
