Leader of Okrika Legislative Assembly, Paul Abam, has commenced the building of public toilets in Daka Ama Community Ward 5, Okrika local government area of Rivers State.

The decision by Abam, who is also the councillor, representing Ward 5 in the Okrika Legislative Assembly, to provide the community with the toilets, is to curb open defecation in the area.

This is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2.6), which provides for sanitation and hygiene and end to open defecation by the year 2030.

He said the project, which has already commenced is also aimed at mitigating the effects of open defecation in the community and its environs and to prevent the outbreak of diseases linked to open defecation in the community.

Abam, who spoke during an inspection to the projects, recently, said it is in fulfilment of his campaign promises and to appreciate the people of ward 5 for chosing him to represent them at the legislative assembly.

“For decades the community has suffered lack of public convenience which have made them seek for help. This project will bring succour to the people as it will end open defecation when completed,” he said.
