The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) interns on Wednesday sensitised Otto community, a suburb of Lagos, on proper waste management.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mrs Folashade Kadiri, Director, Public Affairs, LAWMA.
The statement said the advocacy was in continuation of the community sanitation and advocacy campaign recently kicked off by the state government.
The statement quoted the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, as urging residents to make personal hygiene and proper waste management, a way of life.
The statement said Gbadegesin was represented by LAWMA Executive Director, Mr Kunle Adebiyi.
It noted that the task of ensuring a clean environment was a collective responsibility.
“The task of ensuring and maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility,” it said.
The statement urged residents to acquire covered bins for disposal of their waste, to avoid the spread of diseases.
It also enjoined interested youths in Otto community, to register as interns at LAWMA Academy.
“When graduate youths from the community register as interns, they can spread awareness about what they have learned.
“Various opportunities now exist in waste management.
“To benefit, we must open our eyes to the possibilities around us,” it said.
