The House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy has announced that the National Legislative Summit and Expo on Renewable Energy, originally scheduled for February 24-27, 2025, will now take place on May 5-6, 2025.

The event, which will be hosted at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, aims to foster sustainable growth and innovation within Nigeria’s renewable energy market and development.

The summit, with the theme “Renew Nigeria: Unlocking Opportunities,” will be held in partnership with the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Afam Victor Ogene, Chairman of the Committee on Renewable Energy, explained that the decision to reschedule the event was made after careful consultations with both the Committee and the Speaker’s office.

The change in date is to allow for a broader participation of stakeholders, as many key players in the renewable energy sector expressed interest in attending.

Ogene further explained that the rescheduling was essential to expand the summit’s scope, ensuring that it accommodates a wider range of stakeholders who can contribute meaningfully to discussions and deliberations.

The Committee acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the change of dates and assured stakeholders that the new dates would allow more flexibility and better participation from industry leaders, policymakers, and other critical stakeholders.

The two-day summit will provide a platform for high-level stakeholder engagement, in-depth industry assessments, and the identification of key actions needed to advance Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.

One of the main focuses of the summit will be the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023, specifically those that pertain to renewable energy.

The event will aim to identify priority actions and strategies for the successful implementation of these provisions, addressing both the challenges and opportunities in the sector.

Ogene highlighted the importance of renewable energy for Nigeria’s future, stating that the government is committed to taking concrete steps to invest in and promote sustainable energy solutions.

The upcoming summit is expected to attract a diverse group of stakeholders, including government officials, industry experts, private investors, civil society organizations, and international partners.

The event is expected to serve as an important forum for discussing and exploring opportunities in Nigeria’s renewable energy market, identifying strategies to overcome barriers to growth, and developing actionable plans to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy technologies across the country.

It is also expected to provide valuable insights, drive collaboration, and contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of the industry, positioning Nigeria as a leader in renewable energy within Africa and beyond.
