The Lagos State Government has sealed three supermarkets in the Kosofe area for violating the state’s ban on single-use plastics, as part of its ongoing crackdown on plastic pollution.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the action on Wednesday via a post on X, explaining that the enforcement aims to ensure full compliance with Lagos’ environmental laws.

According to Wahab, ministry enforcement teams discovered several non-compliant businesses during operations across Kosofe Local Government Area.

Winny Supermarket was sealed and its single-use plastic materials confiscated, while Afia Supermarket at Tipper Garage, Ketu, and Beyond Tastee2Go Restaurant on Ogudu Road, Ojota, were also shut down on October 29, 2025, after repeated warnings were ignored.

Wahab said the exercise is part of broader efforts to curb plastic pollution, safeguard public health, and promote sustainable waste management across the state.

He urged business owners to adopt eco-friendly alternatives as enforcement continues.

The Lagos State Government began full-scale enforcement of its ban on single-use plastics below 40 microns on July 1, 2025.

The policy targets Styrofoam food packs, plastic straws, lightweight nylon bags, disposable cups, and cutlery, with offenders facing sanctions in line with environmental regulations.
