The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed two estates—EMCEL Court Phase I and Well Stock Apartments—in Eti-Osa for illegally discharging untreated wastewater into public drains, posing serious environmental and public health risks.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the enforcement action on Monday, revealing that investigations confirmed deliberate pollution by the estates, which created a public nuisance and endangered human health.
The properties, located in Ikota GRA, Eti-Osa, were sealed as part of the state’s intensified crackdown on environmental pollution and poor sanitation.
This latest action follows similar measures over the past year, including the sealing of residential and commercial properties across Lagos for illegal waste disposal.
In recent weeks, properties in Lagos Island and Lekki have been shut, and multiple arrests made for unauthorized dumping.
Wahab urged residents to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices, warning that offenders will face prosecution to uphold environmental safety and public health.
Residents from other areas, such as Isolo and Jakande Estate Gate, have called for similar enforcement efforts in their communities to combat persistent pollution and refuse dumping.
