The Corps Marshal of Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has stated that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is committed to ensuring a healthy and clean environment.
As a result, the Agency will diligently enforce compliance with all environmental laws throughout the entire State.
This is in response to the growing need for a cleaner and healthier environment in Housing Estates and other areas of the State.
The Corps Marshal of LAGESC, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (Retd), voiced her concerns about these unhealthy practices at the Command Headquarters in Bolade-Oshodi recently.
According to her, LAGESC has implemented a comprehensive solution which focus is on promoting cleanliness, hygiene, and the
beautification of the surroundings through proactive measures aimed at preventing environmental infractions and nuisances.
She emphasized that the current administration, under CP Akinpelu revealed that the Agency has been actively monitoring environmental infractions and responding to petitions from concerned citizens.
Recently, the Monitoring Team identified three blocks of flats at the Millennium Housing Estate, Oko-Oba, Agege, which were in violation of various environmental regulations.
These violations included distressed soak-aways, defective plumbing works, overgrown vegetation, improper discharge of effluent, and overall untidiness. Abatement notices were promptly served to address these infractions.
Similarly, a block of flats at Falowo bus-stop, Jakande Estate, Ejigbo, received
notices for related environmental infractions to ensure compliance and restore order.
The Corps Marshal emphasized that this campaign will be ongoing and sustained, not only in gated estates but also in other areas of the State.
She made it clear that all environmental infractions will be strictly dealt with, and violators of the State’s environmental laws
will face appropriate penalties.
Mrs. Akinpelu urged Lagosians to follow the directives issued by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.
She called for a change in attitude among residents, urging them not to dump refuse in drainage channels or build structures along drainage alignments.
She stressed that every resident has a responsibility to support the efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
This collective effort is essential to minimize the impact of heavy rainfall and the release of dam water, ensuring that no part of the State suffers from devastating consequences.
