Lagos govt set to host inaugural Climate Action Africa Forum

The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has announced that it will host the inaugural Climate Action Africa Forum which aims to create a climate-resilient Africa through co-creation, innovation, and sustainable investment in June.

This was stated at an international press conference in Abuja on Friday.

As a major step towards a sustainable future, the CAAF24, a climate change action initiative, which is scheduled for June 17–19, 2024, intends to address the pressing need for investments in climate-smart development plans and sustainable development in Africa.

At the international press conference which , focused on ‘Green economies, brighter futures, innovating and investing in Africa’s climate-smart development’, leaders, experts, and stakeholders agreed on the importance of protecting the environment from climate change stating that the aim is to engage in strategic collaborations and solutions to Africa’s environmental challenges.

Climate Action Africa’s Executive Director, Grace Mbah, declared that registration for the June conference in Lagos would open on April 2, 2024, and that tech-driven solutions in the areas of building, construction, energy, transportation, agriculture, and emissions reduction are required.

She called on organizations and volunteers to participate in the event, highlighting its focus on innovative approaches and collaborative action which aims to catalyze solutions that enhance the sustainability and prosperity of Africa’s natural resources, people, and economies, highlighting the critical need for decisive action to mitigate climate change’s adverse impacts.

Also speaking at the event is Salisu Dahiru, the Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, who stated that CAAF24 has great potential to inspire group efforts toward an environmentally friendly and economically successful Africa.

Gerald Esambe, a climate change officer at the African Development Bank Group, expressed optimism about the initiative’s outcome, stating that collective efforts can drive meaningful action for a sustainable future.
