The Lagos State Government has thrown its weight behind CreditPRO’s #EndPlasticPollution campaign, reaffirming its commitment to tackling one of the state’s most pressing environmental challenges.
The initiative, which promotes responsible plastic waste management and sustainable living, was officially launched on Saturday at the Chief Anthony Enahoro Housing Estate in Ogba.
According to a statement released on Monday, the campaign is supported by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluewa Finnih, represented by his Technical Special Assistant, Michael Folorunsho, commended the initiative as both timely and impactful.
Finnih said the campaign aligns with SDG 11, which focuses on building sustainable cities and communities, while reinforcing Lagos State’s vision of a cleaner and more resilient environment.
To launch the project, CreditPRO donated plastic collection bins to selected communities, including Chief Anthony Enahoro and George Crescent Estates in Ogba, as part of a citywide rollout aimed at encouraging recycling and waste segregation.
CreditPRO’s Managing Director, Dr. Sola Adeyiga, emphasized that environmental sustainability is vital for business continuity, noting that “the going concern of a business is not guaranteed without a healthy and sustainable environment.”
LASEPA’s Director of Partnership, Grant Management and Innovation, Olabisi Shonibare, praised the collaboration, describing plastic pollution as a growing concern that requires joint efforts from the public and private sectors.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority also reiterated its ongoing engagement with communities across the state, teaching residents how recycling can be rewarding and contribute to a cleaner city.
In recent months, Lagos State has intensified its efforts to combat plastic pollution, including the implementation of a ban on single-use plastics such as styrofoam, straws, plastic cutlery, and thin nylon bags below 40 microns.
The government’s backing of CreditPRO’s campaign underscores its broader commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Lagos.
