The Kwara State Government has strengthened its partnership with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders to expand mechanised farming, improve food production, and promote climate-smart agriculture across the state.

The renewed collaboration was reaffirmed during a meeting between the Kwara State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes project and the state chapter of AFAN in Ilorin.

State Project Coordinator of KWACReSAL, Shamsideen Aregbe, said tractorisation remained critical to modern agriculture and food security, noting that the state government would continue supporting farmers with mechanised farming equipment.

He said the tractor support initiative followed a World Bank-backed intervention aimed at improving agricultural productivity across the state.

Aregbe also stressed the need for sustained engagement with farming communities to address flooding, logistics, and food security challenges, while calling for greater inclusion of women in agricultural programmes.

AFAN Chairman in Kwara, Shuaib Ajibola, commended the government’s agricultural interventions and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting farmers and promoting environmental sustainability.

He also raised concerns over land disputes affecting farming communities and called for continuous stakeholder engagement to ensure peaceful farming activities across the state.
