The Kenya Directorate of Tourism in conjunction with the Bomet County Assembly has planned to adopt a new tourism policy aimed at making the county a tourist destination.
In several years tourism has been the main source of income in Bomet county as tourist destinations
According to Mr Charles Korir the Director of Tourism in the county, the tourism policy that just passed the first stage was at its final stage and the policy would be confirmed in the County Assembly before its assenting by the governor, KNA said
“We have invited different stakeholders including the members of the public, civic society for participation of this policy, it has gone through all stages and now that it has gone through here, we are almost actualizing the idea of bringing tourism to our county.
“Tourism can be undertaken to become a source of income in this county. Our revenue collection and business opportunities can be created from this industry,” Korir said.
Part of Bomet County is within the Mau forest which is home to different species of trees, wildlife and birds which can easily be exploited for tourism. There are also caves and waterfalls in Konoin, Bomet central, Bomet East and Chepalungu Sub-Counties along major rivers of Itare, Nyongores, Amalo and Chepkulo rivers.
The success of Bomet County as a tourist destination relies on a coordinated approach to the planning, development, management of it as a destination. The department works closely with other sector and agencies in promoting tourism activities in the County.
