Nyandarua residents in Kenya have been called on to protect water infrastructure in the region.
The Nyandarua County Commissioner Amos Gikaro Mariba, made the call after the government completed and commissioned Sh 80 million Rutara Dam.
Mariba also said the vandalization of water pumps and pipes and solar panels in the region does not contribute to government effort else, dragging government development efforts, KNA reports
“We have more than 40 water projects going on in various Sub Counties. It is therefore the duty of the residents not only to conserve these infrastructures but also secure and conserve water catchment areas,” Mariba said.
According to the Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki said the project which now moves to the distribution stage will see more residents connected with piped water.
“The desilting of Rutara Dam, which is a colonial dam, has been completed on time alongside Gachwe, Tank 22 in Rurii and Kiganjo water projects within the Constituency.
“This is a milestone for the people of Nyandarua, as they lagged behind in water connectivity,” regretted Kariuki, who graced the launch of the Shs 80 million projects in the area.
