Kebbi promises to allocate land to less privileged residents

Kebbi State Government has promised to allocate 22,000 residential plots at low prices to the less privileged members of the society.

Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, made the disclosure at a press conference at the Government House, Kebbi, on Wednesday.

He said the programme introduced by Governor Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu was to ensure that a substantial number of people in the state have shelter.

The commissioner said the essence of introducing the programme was to assist the less-privileged and address the shelter shortage across the state.

Sadiq said in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital with the highest population, 7,000 plots would be allocated. He said 1,500 plots would be allocated in each of the major towns of Argungu, Yauri and Zuru, while 535 plots would be allocated in each of the remaining local government areas.

The commissioner advised prospective land owners to obtain application forms from the state ministry for lands and housing or its zonal offices across the state.

According to Sadiq, the plots are categorized into those to be located in low density, medium density and high density with different prices.

He explained that in Birnin Kebbi, a plot of land at the low destiny area would be sold at N200,000 and N150,000 in medium density area, while it would be sold at N100,000 in the high density area.

He said that in major towns such as Argungu, Yauri and Zuru, a plot would be sold at N120,000 in low destiny area, N150,000 in medium density and N100,000 in high density area.

Sadiq added that the Ministry of Local Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Housing was working assiduously to provide the necessary infrastructure in the prospective areas.

Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed-Sallah, said that the programme would be a continuous one.

He noted that application forms would be available for sale as soon as possible to enable many people procure and own houses of their own.

Similarly, the Kebbi State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Shehu SarkinKabi-Jega, appreciated Gov. Atiku-Bagudu for the programme. He urged the people to take advantage of the new development to be able to key into the clique of house owners.
