In a significant stride towards enhancing dry period farming, Kebbi State has undertaken the cultivation of 6,000 solar-driven facilities, providing crucial power support for agriculturalists.
Alhaji Ahmed Idris, media assistant to Governor Nasir Idris, announced this development on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, following the governor’s proclamation in Abuja on Friday.
Governor Idris, during his visit to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, emphasized Kebbi’s commitment to augmenting the Federal Government’s dry period farming initiative.
The state has successfully acquired 6,000 units of solar-powered facilities, as outlined by the media assistant, illustrating Governor Idris’s commitment.
During the visit, Governor Idris extended an invitation to the minister to serve as the Special Guest at the launch of the Kaura Agricultural Development and Growth Agenda. This initiative also involves the distribution of solar-powered units to empower agriculturalists across Kebbi.
Governor Idris assured collaboration with the federal ministry to contribute to national food security, underscoring the importance of joint efforts in this critical sector.
In response, Minister Abubakar Kyari commented on the collective commitment demonstrated by several governors, including those from Kebbi, to collaborate with the Federal Government in ensuring food security.
He highlighted the urgency of inter-governmental interactions to address the pressing issues of increased food production, reduced inflation, and comprehensive national food security.
The minister disclosed that the initiative had already seen the dismissal of dry period wheat farming in 15 states in November 2023. This strategic move aims to make Nigeria less reliant on rain-fed agriculture and promote year-round farming.
Kyari emphasized that year-round farming would not only bolster crop cultivation but also generate employment opportunities, alleviate poverty, mitigate food inflation, and enhance overall food security comprehensively.
The concerted efforts of Kebbi State align with the national agenda, marking a significant step toward sustainable and resilient agriculture practices in the region.
