Katsina ACReSAL Project Partners Varsity for Tree Planting Exercise

The Katsina ACReSAL Project team, led by the Project Coordinator, Alhaji Halliru Mohammed, has paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor of Umaru Musa YarAdua University, Professor Salihu Shehu Muhammed, at his office in Katsina to seek for a partnership in the area of tree planting exercise.

The Katsina ACReSAL Project is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Environment, funded by the World Bank, to address land degradation and desertification in Katsina State.

The Project aims to restore degraded lands, enhance livelihoods, and improve resilience to climate change.

According to the Project Coordinator, the aim of planting the seedlings is to create a healthy environment across the campus.

He explained that Katsina ACReSAL Project will provide agreed improved seedlings and will be planted at different places on the University’s campus.

He noted that the culture of afforestation needs to be revived and sustained through environmental awareness and advocacy.

The Vice Chancellor of Umaru Musa YarAdua University, Professor Salihu Shehu Muhammed, expressed his appreciation for the visit and commended the efforts of the Katsina ACReSAL Project team.

He assured them of the University’s support and cooperation in the tree planting exercise.

He also emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and education for sustainable development.

The visit was part of the Katsina ACReSAL Project’s strategy to partner with institutions and communities for the tree planting exercise.

The Project has also collaborated with other stakeholders such as local governments, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, and farmers.

The Project hopes to achieve its target of planting over 10 million trees in Katsina State by 2025.
