The Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has warned individuals and organisations against the indiscriminate posting of bills, posters and banners on roundabouts and other public infrastructure across the Kano metropolis.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry expressed concern over what it described as the increasing defacement of roundabouts, road medians, flyovers, landscaped areas and other public spaces through unauthorised advertisements and promotional materials.
It said the practice undermines the state’s ongoing urban beautification and environmental regeneration efforts, while also contributing to visual pollution, infrastructure damage and obstruction of visibility along major traffic corridors.
The Ministry noted that, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, several roundabouts and green corridors within the state capital are currently undergoing landscaping, decorative upgrades and ecological improvements in line with climate-resilient urban design standards.
It therefore directed political actors, corporate organisations, event promoters, religious bodies, advertising agencies and members of the public to desist from using public infrastructure for unauthorised postings.
According to the statement, enforcement units have been mandated to intensify surveillance and ensure compliance with environmental sanitation and urban management regulations.
Offenders, it warned, will face sanctions in line with existing laws and may be made to bear the cost of restoring damaged public property.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment, urging residents to support the government’s beautification drive by using designated advertising platforms and engaging relevant regulatory authorities where necessary.
