In a bid to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security, the Kaduna State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has commenced the sale and distribution of fertilizer to 4,600 farmers across the state for the upcoming 2023 farming season.
Alhaji Nuhu Aminu, the AFAN chairman in the state, announced during the flag-off ceremony that the fertilizer would be provided to farmers as a loan, aiming to alleviate their financial burden.
The distribution would see 200 farmers benefiting in each of the 23 local government areas of the state.
Aminu emphasized the timely distribution as a crucial step in boosting agriculture and ensuring food security not only within the state but also beyond its borders.
He highlighted the potential for wealth creation and employment opportunities for youth through the agricultural sector.
Assuring the proper delivery of the fertilizer, Aminu stated that his leadership had established an efficient framework for its sale and distribution, specifically targeting grassroots farmers.
He stressed the importance of providing essential resources to farmers, including affordable fertilizer, to enhance crop yield, improve soil fertility, increase profitability, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
While urging farmers to use the fertilizer responsibly, Aminu cautioned against diversion or mismanagement of the commodity.
Several beneficiaries, such as Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, Malama Hauwa Usman, Umar Musa, and Kabir Ahmad, expressed their satisfaction and appreciation for AFAN’s efforts in supporting farmers.
