On the occasion of International Youth Day (IYD), Helpline Foundation for the Needy, a prominent non-governmental organization, has emphasized the significance of green skills for the youth in creating a more sustainable world.
Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, the visionary founder of the foundation, made the call during a media address in Abuja on Saturday.
Dr. Ahmadu underscored the importance of education and training focusing on green skills as a means for young individuals to address the pressing environmental challenges that the world is facing.
Under the theme “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” this year’s IYD emphasizes the critical role of imparting knowledge and skills that align with environmental consciousness and sustainability.

She encouraged young people to actively pursue green skills, including areas such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, waste management, conservation, and eco-friendly technologies.
By equipping themselves with these skills, the youth can contribute to innovative solutions that address the planet’s most urgent issues.
Dr. Ahmadu challenged the youth to imagine a world where renewable energy sources replace fossil fuels, sustainable agricultural practices sustain a growing population, and waste is minimized through recycling and reduction efforts.
She urged them to integrate sustainable practices into their daily routines, promote renewable energy sources, and advocate for environmentally conscious approaches within their communities.
