Preamble
I had an encounter during a behavioral retainership visit to one of my high powered client. When I put a call through to him, he said “Dr James, I am picking your call only for today, I am in an hotel at so and so place resting, please come over here and see me”. When I arrived at the Hotel, his phone was engaged and the intercom to his room was not picked. After 30 minutes, he walk down the aisle engrossed in a serious telephone conversation with a client. He beckoned to me to go up with him to his “resting” apartment. When we got there and he managed to end the call to receive his Coach (my humble self), reiterated the fact that he came there to rest. On his bed, were two books, accessories and his other telephone set. I told him point blank, sir, you came here only to continue your normal lifestyle daily activities. The only difference is that you are not in your house…so why paying extra bills here to repeat what you are doing at home? This is certainly not an atmosphere of rest in the rest place in any way. Many do this on a weekly basis; busy within and engrossed without!
Many natives in our days lack the true and thorough understanding of their rest protocol. They do some much within the ambit of time without regard to rest and its critical demands. Rest is not a phenomenon to be achieved only when in bed; many do but miss out big time on the complements that makes up the package called rest. So, the challenge looms on a daily basis. Many restless persons are dropping dead in our days….surprisingly, the vitals may not show it, the medical checks may not construe it or route it rather. The behavioral protocol is such an experience that is delicate yet simple to keep. When the rest complements are not considered, many things from physiology to psychology goes the wrong way without the instruments being able to detect.
On very many occasions, when we tell our children “go and sleep”, we would likely get an instant answer, “I am not feeling sleepy yet” The rest protocol as stressed by the times is far more inclusive and extensive than we often think. Let examine what rest is not according to the crucial demands for lifestyle and productive outcomes.

1. Waiting to be very tired physically before you opt for rest is a behavioral culture that is indecent. It would weary your personal energy regimen and subject you early weakness in life!
2. Jesus told his disciples in the synoptic gospel, “come ye yourselves apart”……don’t wait until the chips are down…wasting time could be a gateway to a wasteful life. Not because you are not planning hard, but the absence of working smart on a deliberate note.
3. Rest is not all about sleep alone. Many things that complements rest come into it that we often neglect. We work ourselves to stupor in order to hit the bed carelessly and plainless.
4.A rest protocol that does not improve the position of the mind is not rest at all. The mind is a roving organ needing the relaxing mode to rejig its cohesion and positioning over issues from time to time. Many natives are rigid while others are frigid due to poor rest protocol that does not deliver its value
5.True rest is not all about physical realities, many ignore other mental and emotional factors that join up in the complement
6. To quickly catch a nap in order to pay for lost moments of sleep don’t translate into rest automatically. Such quick fixes a times meets the temporary need but does not satisfy the long term scaling effect.
7. Sleeping and waking up with pains and tiredness is a symbol of the lack of proper rest. This is one of the salient point to discuss in the zoom enlightenment programme in the coming week.
8. Rest that does not take away certain schedules on a temporal note may not produce a lasting result. It is only a short fuse!
9. Rest that does not come privately as a matter of deliberate intention is not a rest. Decide, determine and deliver!
10. Rest not seen as a focused investment towards achieving an end in mind is not rest. You are only taking an exercise that does not fully deliver its worth
11. Coming and going is not only physical, it could be mental or emotional…even in bed ..this is also not rest. Too much bed analysis could lead to too many lifestyle paralysis
12. Any rest that denies your nutrition content and growth as at when due ( when you are not fasting) is not a true rest. It is a behavioral lean management that does not deliver its entirety.
13. Rest that is not within a defined structure is equally not a rest (The LORD said it’s a ‘rest awhile’)
14. Many call it rest without a corresponding ‘departure’ It must take away something (functions and programmes from you) otherwise, it’s not a rest. Inability to shut down on certain programmes and functions on a temporal note is doing more havocs.
15. It is not rest when it doesn’t add to you afterwards. The means of achieving rest not justifying the end result of your rest is not also rest.
Crucial Point
In true rest, you know what you do and do what you know deliberately. Slump analysis is a combination of many ommissions and commissions.
