In-house Training: NatureNews Train’s Staff on Solutions Reporting

In profiling solutions to environmental reporting, the Environment First publication in Africa, NatureNews has trained the staff of the organization on Solutions Journalism in responding to issues around its purview.

The training was held on Monday at the head office of the organization in Abuja.

Following the approaches of investigating and explicitly solving problems around the environment, The NatureNews Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Pius Alabi said that the training will not only advance the skills of the reporters, but for them to be more accurate in reporting and telling a ‘WHOLE’ story.

” Our focus is to advocate for a better Environment and its Habitants.”

The facilitator, Mr. Daniel Adaji, Associate Editor/Data Analyst, NatureNews explained that Solutions Journalism is a good way of telling a complete story, through Investigative and insightful ways of reporting.

“This training would improve our reporters ability to explain what works and what doesn’t work in the society. This way, solutions to certain problems are amplified while the challenges are outlined for further recommendations.”

Commending the organization for organizing the training, and the facilitator, Mrs. Alice Obiabin Onukwugha, NatureNews Senior Correspondent in Port Harcourt said that the training is insightful.

“Reports under SOJO are special news features reports, mostly exclusive, but mainly Human angle.”

However, the training focuses on evidence of data and qualitative results that show effective ways in response to issues.
