In commemoration of the 2025 World Environment Day, key stakeholders in Taraba State’s climate and civil society sectors came together for a major sensitization campaign held at Kasuwan Berra, Jalingo.
The event was led by Mr. Dayo Folorunsho, Executive Director of the Initiative for climate change and renewable energy advocacy (ICCREA), Dr. Joseph Gimba, Chairman of the Coalition for Civil Society Organizations in Taraba State; Professor E.A. Emerh of Taraba State University; and Hon. Joseph Terrance, among other notable civil society leaders and environmental advocates like Dr. Oluwaseyi Shittu, the Executive Director Saymiyetti Poly and Sustainable Action for Nature.
This year’s celebration featured a robust community engagement drive, urging residents to adopt sustainable climate practices and become active participants in building an eco-friendly future. The campaign highlighted the urgent need for individual and collective responsibility in tackling climate change, restoring degraded ecosystems, and promoting renewable energy use.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Folorunsho emphasized the importance of grassroots action in achieving long-term climate resilience, while Dr. Gimba called for stronger policy support and collaboration between government, academia, and civil society to drive environmental sustainability across the state. The 2025 World Environment Day, with its global theme “Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration,” served as a timely reminder of the role every citizen must play in protecting the planet for future generations.
