There is high demand of clay pots in parts of Taraba State, including Jalingo the capital city.
Clay pots, gotten from Clay, a mineral in sedimentary rocks were used as coolers by local communities in Nigeria before the advent of fridges. With a tantalizing aroma, clay pots provided a natural way of cooling system for water in homes.
It was gathered that residents have now turned to using such pots as an alternative method to cool their drinks due to the severe heat, propelled by climate change and epileptic power supply.
As a result, clay pot sellers in the state are now smiling to the banks, as they have been recording an increase in demand. Sources noted that the recent development has result in rise in the price of clay pots.
Pot sellers at Tashan Lau market in Jalingo, have confirmed the development.
Also, reports have it that a big-sized clay pot now costs N6,000, while the medium-sized one costs between N1,400 and N3500.
