Health Benefits of eating Grapes (Vitis vinifera)

Grapes are fruits but botanically known as a berry. Grapes are very essential in human nutrition. They Originated in the Middle East about 8,000 years ago. They can be consumed raw or fresh, dried ( in raisins) and may be used in the production of Juices, Jams, Wines and other products.

Grapes grow in clusters of 15-300 and comes in different colours of green, red, pink, purple and yellow. Grapes are loaded with essential Vitamins and Minerals including Copper, Vitamin K and Vitamin B. Vitamin K are crucial for bone formation and may help in blood clotting. Copper helps in energy production while Vitamin B are required for proper growth and development. They helps in the synthesis of proteins.

Grapes are rich sources of antioxidants which are substances that protects the cells from free radicals that play role in heart diseases and cancer.

Resveratol and Quercetin are important antioxidants that gives protection against Cancerous growth, heart diseases and high sugar levels. They are equally rich in other quality antioxidants like the Vitamin C, Ellagic acids, lutein and Beta – Carotene.

Grapes are important fruits that may be helpful in improving Vision and protecting against eye infections due to the presence of Zeaxanthin and lutein compounds.

Consuming grapes helps in  improving memory and brain health. Resveratol gives protection against Alzheimer’s diseases by preventing inflammations.

Grapes has antimicrobial properties that inhibits the growth of micro-organisms like Fungi and Bacteria and may be useful in fighting food borne diseases.

Resveratol gives protection to the skin and hair. They are majorly used in cosmetics products. It protects the skin against the harmful effects of the Ultraviolet rays.
