Harmattan condition in the tropics is characterised by dust in the air occasionally by heavy wind.
Speaking to NatureNews on Thursday, Olajumoke James stated that harmattan period is one of the best seasons because it lowers the environmental temperature even as some crops fare better in the season.
He stated, “Though the harmattan season has capacity to drain water from the soil, crops still enjoy carbon iv oxide produced through the air and sunlight.”
According to a pharmacist Dayo Lawal, the dust particles in the wind can affect human healthy mostly the eyes causing respiratory disease to both adults and children.
“Harmattan has harmful effect on humans. It causes respiratory diseases, cough, catarrh which mostly lead to headache,” she explained.

He added, “Harmattan is a season asthmatic patients have attacks because of dust.”
Hauwa Haruna stated that harmattan affects human skill making it dry and unkept as well as poor visibility by dust.
“Sheabutter is now my body cream because the skin gets dry, and also it comes with cracking of lips, sole of the feed,” she said.
Haruna advised people mosty nursing mothers to take extra care by not exposing themselves and children to cold.
“Bathing in cold water and not wearing appropriate dresses should be avoided this season.
“Dmokers should also desist or reduce the amount of cigarettes taking because of season, “she added.
