Gombe begins fertiliser distribution to aid wet season farming

The Gombe State Government has started distributing subsidised fertiliser to farmers across all 114 wards, as part of efforts to boost 2025 wet season farming and ensure food security.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya directed the initiative to ensure that genuine farmers at the grassroots, down to polling units, receive agricultural inputs without facing transportation burdens.

The programme involves the distribution of 10,000 metric tons (equivalent to 200,000 bags) of high-quality fertiliser at a significantly reduced price.

Trucks have already begun transporting the fertiliser to various Local Government Areas, following the recent official flag-off by the governor.

Dr Barnabas Malle, State Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, confirmed on Sunday that the distribution is progressing smoothly and that local governments have started receiving their allocated shares.

Malle commended the quality of the fertiliser and emphasised its potential to boost crop yields and enhance agricultural productivity.

He urged farmers to use the inputs wisely and to remain alert to environmental risks by following weather updates.

He reaffirmed the state government’s ongoing commitment to supporting agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and rural development in Gombe State.
