The Global Green Event, which was held recently at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Centre in El-Jadida, Morocco, is drawing attention to renewable energy initiatives in Africa.
Against the backdrop of unprecedented water stress in North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and southern Africa, this environmental trade fair serves as a platform for discussing alternative solutions and fostering sustainable development in the region.
The event, formerly known as Pollutec Maroc, addresses pressing environmental challenges, particularly in regions where over 80% of water reserves are utilized for irrigation, livestock, industry, and domestic needs.
With projections indicating a worsening water scarcity scenario by 2050, the Global Green Event emphasized the need for alternative solutions, including the reuse of treated wastewater and desalination.
Organized under the auspices of the Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the 13th edition of this international trade show served as a crucial platform for at least 300 companies to showcase expertise in ecological transition and sustainable development.
Renewable energy, a pivotal aspect of achieving sustainability in the region, is took center stage at the event.
Morocco, for instance, aims to increase the share of renewable energies in its electricity mix, with a particular focus on solar and wind power.
Similarly, energy transition efforts are also underway in other African countries, such as Egypt and South Africa.
In addition to conventional renewable energy sources, the event is amplifying discussions on the emerging sector of green hydrogen and its derivatives, particularly ammonia for agriculture and sustainable aviation fuel.
Energy specialists project that this sector will accelerate the ecological transition after 2030, further amplifying the importance of renewable energy initiatives.
Furthermore, with a focus on waste management, sustainable cities, green buildings, and industrial pollution, the exhibitions at the Global Green Event are set to underscore the holistic approach required to address environmental challenges in Africa.
This event also served as a platform to drive collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange, paving the way for the widespread adoption of renewable energy solutions across the continent.
