The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving food security, economic diversification, and youth and women empowerment through expanded agricultural investments.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, made this known during a working visit to the 1,300-hectare Jangwa Rice Farm in Awe LGA, Nasarawa State, over the weekend.
Sen. Kyari emphasized the administration’s focus on transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector to meet rising food demand, reduce importation, and promote sustainable food systems.
He highlighted the importance of partnerships between the Federal Government, state governments, and the private sector in boosting food production.
“The shared commitment between federal and state governments is key to achieving food self-sufficiency,” Kyari said, assuring farmers of continued government support.
He stressed that youth involvement in agriculture is vital for securing the nation’s future and pledged to return after harvest to assess the initiative’s impact.
The minister also noted that the project could serve as a catalyst for strengthening the rice value chain and encouraging similar agricultural investments across other states.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, who accompanied the minister, highlighted Nasarawa’s position as a leading producer of rice and sesame in Nigeria.
He added that the farm initiative has provided jobs for youth and women and contributed to crime reduction in the state.
