The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa has announced plans to create cheap home designs and encourage the building of high-quality, reasonably priced housing for Nigerians.
According to him, the plan will meet the housing demands of 80% of the nation’s low- and middle-class earnings.
“The prioritization of affordable housing is a fundamental tenet of my term as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. We must provide the housing needs of the 80% of Nigerians who are low- to medium-income earners—those without an income—urgent attention.
“All of these industrious residents should have equitable access to decent, well-planned homes and neighborhoods that uphold the values of justice and inclusivity. In a statement issued by Badamasi Haiba, the ministry’s deputy director for information, the minister stated that “achieving this requires affordable housing design concepts based on the most efficient bills of quantities.
“An affordable housing design committee was established in his first week in office to develop efficient designs for Nigerians’ income profiles. The committee seeks public feedback on the designs, aiming for sustainable, efficient solutions,” he said.
