FG hastens pace to end TB in Nigeria

In realization of the mid-term review of the National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis Programme, the Federal Government of Nigeria has sped up efforts towards ensuring Nigeria free of Tuberculosis.

The Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama, at the weekend in Abuja at the presentation of the National Tuberculosis Programme charged the stakeholders, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme to collaborate with other MDA’s, ensuring the remaining Tuberculosis cases are treated.

With the theme: Mid-term Review of National Strategic plan 2021-2025.

The Minister of State for Health, while highlighting to the success of Nigeria Tuberculosis programme in the areas of cases notification, routine Improved coverage and high treatment success rate among others

He further urged the relevant stakeholders to put an effort to bridge the gap in tuberculosis financing by increasing domestic findings and control of cases through ensuring 100 percent coverage of health facilities in Nigeria with tuberculosis services in line with the universal health coverage target.

Also, the Director of Public Health, Federal Ministry of Health represented Dr. Geoffrey Okatubo, said the undetected is a major concern to the success recorded he added the ministry was ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure an end to tuberculosis epidemic in Nigeria calling on all concerned to work together to have a nation free of the disease.

Representatives of USAID and WHO declared support to provide technical backing and resources to optimize for the national TB programmes in Nigeria.

However, the mid-term review of the National Tuberculosis Programme, is aimed at finding hidden facts about Tuberculosis in Nigeria with a view to plan ahead for the next three years.
