The Federal Capital Territory Administration has begun demolitions of illegal structures in the federal capital territory.
This followed as the Development Control Department on Monday, pulled down shanties structures at 1st Kabusa junction interchange, ring road two Southern part express way in Dutse district, under Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The Director, Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, who led the operation, told journalists that removal of the illegal structures would bring about “sanity in the area.”
He said the area was becoming an eye sore in the city as well as paving the way for an ‘unhealthy’ environment.
According to him, the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had directed that illegalities should not be allowed in the territory, which he said all structures must conform with the best standards.
Galadima explained that in years to come, an overhead bridge will be constructed around the place.
“The removal of the shanties is in continuation of our commitment to keep sanity in the city and make the neighborhoods and environment healthy. Kabusa is an eye sore to the city starting from the junction.
“The place is an inter-section of ring road two and the outer southern part express way, it is a reservation for an inter-change with time there will be over head bridge that will connect ring road two and the outer southern way.
“We are starting from this point to Galadima roundabout, when we chase out the people we will come up with a plan that will accommodate all the traders, at least we will put them in an organized manner”
Galadima insisted that demolition of structures raised in areas without approval must go down for genuine infrastructure development.
