The Federal Ministry of Environment, in a grand display of unity and commitment to environmental progress, recently hosted a press briefing to formally welcome the newly appointed Minister of Environment, Prof. Ishaq Salako.
The event, impeccably orchestrated by the Director of Press, Mr. Haruna Ibrahim on Monday, was marked by patriotic fervor and a renewed dedication to Nigeria’s environmental well-being.
The gathering commenced with an opening prayer and the rendition of the national anthem, setting a deeply patriotic tone for the proceedings.
Mr. Haruna Ibrahim, the Director of Press, took the stage to introduce the focal guest of the occasion, Prof. Ishaq Salako, providing a succinct citation of his illustrious background.
During this introduction, the impressive credentials of Prof. Salako were unveiled, painting a vivid picture of his rich experience and expertise.
Born into the esteemed family of Alhaji Ibathllahi Lawal Salako from Oke Oyinbo Quarters, Ota, Ogun State, Prof. Salako has held numerous distinguished positions throughout his career.
His journey includes roles as a medical doctor, professor, and lecturer, along with serving as a Consultant Physician & Nephrologist at the University College Hospital (UCH).
Notably, he has also made significant contributions to the health sector as the former Honorable Commissioner for Health in Ogun State.
His academic prowess is underscored by his alumni status at the prestigious University of Ibadan, coupled with specialized expertise in the field of hypertension and kidney diseases.
Following this impressive introduction, it was announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had granted approval for the renaming of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Ecological Management as the Federal Ministry of Environment.
This symbolic change signifies a renewed focus on addressing critical environmental concerns facing the nation.
The subsequent introductions featured the Permanent Secretary, the Director of Human Resources Management, and heads of various agencies, all of whom extended warm greetings to Prof. Salako, emphasizing the unity and collective effort required to tackle environmental challenges.
Prof. Ishaq Salako, in his opening speech, expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him and acknowledged the unique privilege of serving as a minister in Nigeria, a nation of immense potential.
Drawing parallels between Nigeria’s status as the “Giant of Africa” and its untapped environmental resources, he stressed the need for concrete actions to fulfill this lofty title.
The Minister outlined his duty to position Nigeria as an environmental giant through conscientious and sustainable efforts.
Emphasizing the sacred duty of caring for the environment, Prof. Salako cautioned against neglecting it, as such negligence could incur divine displeasure.
