Egypt’s Ministry of Transport has gained approval from the Cabinet to proceed with a project that aims to produce green hydrogen.
The project, developed in collaboration with Belgium’s renowned energy company DEME, is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to localize the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as green ammonia.
The proposed project will be strategically located near the Jarjoub sea port and the Jarjoub Special Economic Zone, demonstrating Egypt’s commitment to utilizing its advantageous geographical position.
The initial phase of the project is estimated to require a substantial investment of up to $3.1 billion.
According to an official statement released earlier this year by the Cabinet, the project will be executed in three distinct phases.
Its primary objective is to cater to the growing demand for green hydrogen in the European market, emphasizing Egypt’s ambition to solidify its status as a regional and global energy exporter.
Prime Minister Madbouly expressed unwavering support for the project, highlighting Egypt’s dedication to facilitating the smooth operations of DEME within the country.
By fostering an environment conducive to the success of the green hydrogen initiative, Egypt aims to contribute significantly to the global transition towards sustainable and renewable energy sources.
