Over 3,000 people have benefitted from a free medical outreach organized Egbin Power Plc in Kwara State.
The 3-day 7th Annual Medical Outreach, organized in collaboration with an NGO, Livewell Initiative, drew the beneficiaries from Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan communities of the state.
A variety of free medical treatments were offered by the outreach, including blood pressure checks, diabetes and malaria tests, dental and eye exams, cardiovascular checks, hepatitis screening, and arthritis diagnosis.
Participants were examined by qualified medical professionals, and residents were given free dental kits, eyeglasses, and prescription drugs to treat any health issues.
The initiative directly addressed the vital health requirements of vulnerable populations, such as children, adults, and nursing mothers, in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) of the UN, which is to ensure good health and well-being.
Residents who benefited from the campaign have expressed their gratitude for the medical outreach.
Egbin Community resident, Wasilat Ogundipe, conveyed her appreciation for the free medical care: “It provides us with prompt access to free medical exams, allowing our parents, kids, and vulnerable community members to take care of their health issues.”
Ipakan Community resident, Alhaji Bello Monsuru, emphasised the financial respite it provides: “We want Egbin Power to continue this wonderful initiative because it gives us access to good healthcare that we could have spent a lot of money on,” recalling, “We have been enjoying this medical outreach for many years.”
Ijede Community Liaison Officer (CLO), Agbabiaka Muftau, said delightedly that over the years, the medical outreach has had a significant influence.
Egbin Power’s Head of Corporate Communications and Branding, Felix Ofulue, highlighted the organization’s goal of enhancing the health and welfare of the communities it serves.
“At Egbin Power, we understand that our success depends on the health and welfare of our host communities,” he said, continuing, “One way we show our dedication to giving back to our host communities is through this medical outreach initiative. It also fits with our commitment to SDG 3, and we will keep working to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality healthcare because we think it is a fundamental right.”
The Livewell Initiative’s managing director, Dr. Bisi Bright, commended the collaboration with Egbin Power for providing underprivileged communities with access to healthcare.
“We are honoured to collaborate on this medical outreach initiative with Egbin Power,” he said, adding, “By working together, we are improving the lives of those who reside in these places.”
The medical outreach is a component of Egbin Power’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, which aim to benefit its host communities economically, educationally, and health-wise.
