In a collaborative effort between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) in Ilorin, a comprehensive one-week training program on fish and vegetable farming has been successfully conducted for 150 young individuals.
Carefully selected from the six geo-political zones of the federation, these 150 youths, all under the age of 35, underwent an intensive training program sponsored by ECOWAS in partnership with ARMTI. The primary goal of this initiative is to empower the participants, fostering financial independence and cultivating a culture of entrepreneurship.
Dr. Olufemi Oladunni, the Executive Director of ARMTI, emphasized that the training plays a crucial role in addressing the nation’s food and nutritional security concerns. He expressed confidence that the beneficiaries would not only excel in their chosen enterprises but also achieve significant financial breakthroughs.
Dr. Oladunni further elucidated on the rationale behind focusing on vegetable and fish farming, emphasizing the strategic importance of these sectors in ensuring sustainable food production.
The participants, drawn from diverse backgrounds, share a collective belief that agriculture holds the key to the future, particularly for those with a visionary outlook. As the training program concludes, the participants are poised to be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for a smooth and successful transition into their respective agricultural ventures. The initiative, spearheaded by ECOWAS and ARMTI, stands as a testament to the commitment to empower Nigerian youths and enhance the nation’s agricultural landscape.
