Easter: LAWMA assures residents of clean environment

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) says it has directed the PSP operators to work optimally in their assigned areas, to ensure people celebrate the Easter in clean environment.

The LAWMA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, gave assurance of the directive in a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Mrs Folashade Kadiri, on Friday in Lagos.

He noted that the PSP operators were expected to work optimally, with the authority providing backup operations to cover service gaps.

”All district heads across the state have been mandated to double their efforts and support the PSP operation to ensure no gap is felt.

‘’We have also taken definite steps to facilitate increased turnaround time by waste evacuation trucks, making sure there are no delays at landfills,” the LAWMA boss said.

He said that LAWMA was ready to meet the waste management needs of residents, during and after the Easter festivities.

According to hm, this will help to consolidate on the agency’s year-round vision of establishing a cleaner and healthier Lagos.

He further said that the agency had intensified its advocacy campaigns to sensitise residents on the importance of ensuring environmental sustainability around their neighbourhoods.

Odumboni urged residents to desist from all acts capable of degrading the environment.

He appealed to motorists to drive with caution, safeguard lives of street sweepers and other service providers discharging their duties during the period.

Odumboni also advised the populace to bag their waste, patronise assigned PSP operators and pay their waste management bills promptly.

He assured that the agency had put in place adequate measures to ensure the celebration was observed in an environment-friendly atmosphere.

He wished all Lagos residents a dirt-free Easter celebration and also advised them to call LAWMA’s toll-free numbers – 07080601020 and 617, for inquiries on waste management issues in their areas, during and after the festive season.
