Wavellite, an Aluminum basic phosphate mineral, was first discovered in the year 1805 in the county of Devon, United Kingdom.
It was named after English physician and mineral collector, William Wavell, who made great contribution to the study of the mineral. It is a phosphate mineral.
Wavellite usually occur in environments where phosphate minerals form, such as in the granite pegmatites, phosphate-rich soils, and hydrothermal veins respectively.
It is primarily found in countries including the United States Germany, France, Brazil, and India.
Wavellite is mainly used as a collector’s gemstone due to its unique spherical crystal clusters, which can exhibit a variety of colors, including green, yellow, and white.
Its aesthetic appeal makes it a popular choice for lapidary arts, where it is cut and polished into cabochons and beads for use in jewelry, decorative objects, and sculptures.
