Dozens of people in numerous communities and villages in northern Sudan had died while thousands were rendered homeless following severe flooding in the region.
The floods, caused by heavy rains, have further strained a country already grappling with a major displacement crisis due to ongoing conflict.
According to Qureshi Hussein, a spokesperson for the Sudanese Civil Defence, the flooding has claimed the lives of 31 people in the northern regions of the country.
One of the flood victims, Yassin Abdul Wahab, lost his home and was forced to construct a makeshift shelter for his family.
“People are sleeping in the streets, and the situation is very bad,” he said.

“We are currently working on building a shelter for the family using materials from the collapsed house,” he added.

The heavy rains and flooding across Sudan in August have affected more than 317,000 people, with 118,000 of them displaced, compounding one of the world’s largest displacement crises amid the ongoing war

On Tuesday, it will mark 500 days since Sudan descended into conflict, following the outbreak of fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
