Delta Flood Victims Get NEMA Relief Items

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has on Sunday embarked on direct distribution of relief items to communities affected by the 2020 flood disaster in Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West Local Government Areas of Delta State.

The distribution, which was kicked off at Kwale by the Director-General of NEMA, Air Vice Marshal Muhammed Mohammadu (Rtd), was a sequel to earlier efforts of the Edo Operations Office that had conducted an on the spot assessment to ascertain the impact and level of destruction of property caused by the flood.

Mohammadu who lamented the impact of flood in the affected communities and the entire state for the unfortunate natural occurrence was represented by the NEMA Edo, Head of Operations, Mr Dahiru Yusuf.

He said, “The relief items intervention was from the Federal Government to the persons affected by the 2020 flood disaster in the two local government areas.

“And the relief materials distributed to the affected persons by the NEMA was part of the effort of the Federal Government to reduce the impact of the flooding in the areas as well as provide for the well being of the people”.

He urged the beneficiaries to ensure the proper use of the items as to give credence to what the Federal Government is doing to ameliorate the plight of those who suffer disasters.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Director Delta State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Mr Karo Evemoso commended the NEMA and the Federal Government for the gesture, adding that the relief materials would go a long way in providing soccour to the people.

Evemoso who was represented by Mr Daniel Okpor, Director of Finance and Administration, assured NEMA that the state government would continue to partner with NEMA to reduce the impact of disasters in the state.

Responding on behalf of the communities, Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai, representing Ndokwa Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, commended the Federal Government and the Director-General of NEMA for the relief materials provided to the affected persons across the communities.

Some of the items distributed to the victims included 311 bags of 12.5kg rice, 311 bags of 25kg beans, 311 bags of 12.5kg maize, 121 kegs of vegetable oil, 26 cartons of tomatoes paste, 52 cartons of seasoning, 622 pieces of blankets, 622 pieces of mosquito nets, 622 pieces of mattresses, 622 pieces of wax prints,900 bundles of zinc, 900 bags of cement, 300 packets of zinc nails, 100 bags of 3’’ nails.
