Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) is preparing to host the highly anticipated 9th National Conference.
The confab is a major event that will bring together a diverse group of experts, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to address some of the most pressing challenges facing Nigeria’s food systems.
Scheduled to take place from April 7 to 11, 2025, the conference will focus on critical issues such as food waste management, sustainable agricultural practices, and the fight against hunger, with the goal of fostering long-term solutions to food insecurity in Nigeria and beyond.
The event, which will be held at the Folorunso and Modupe Alakija Law Auditorium at ACU, will feature a keynote address by Prof. John Derera, a renowned expert from the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan.
The conference is being organized in collaboration with the Sustainable Livelihoods and Development Network for Africa, underscoring the importance of cross-sector partnerships in tackling food-related challenges across the continent.
In a recent meeting with the conference organizing committee, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Muyiwa Popoola, standing in for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, confirmed the university’s commitment to the event and its alignment with ACU’s broader vision.
“This conference represents an opportunity for ACU to showcase its leadership in agricultural research and education,” said Prof. Popoola.
“We are not just gathering experts to talk about problems; we are coming together to forge actionable solutions, focusing on integrating cutting-edge science, technology, and sustainable farming practices to ensure food security for future generations.”
Prof. Adebayo said the 9th National Conference is designed to go beyond theoretical discussions and work toward concrete, practical solutions.
“The challenges we face—climate change, population growth, and limited resources—require innovative solutions that guarantee safe, nutritious, and sufficient food for all,” he stated.
“This conference will provide a unique platform for collaboration, where we can explore new approaches and share best practices to enhance food production while reducing waste.”
The conference will cover a range of critical topics, including effective food waste management strategies, sustainable agricultural practices, the role of technology in food production, and community-driven solutions to hunger.
Participants will discuss how new technologies and innovative approaches can be leveraged to improve food systems, reduce waste, and ultimately enhance food security in Nigeria.
Special attention will also be given to emerging trends in sustainable farming techniques that could help mitigate the environmental impact of agriculture while improving yields.
