The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has donated food items to support victims of recent floods in Mokwa Local Government Area, Niger State, as part of its humanitarian outreach.

The donation, comprising 45 bags of grains—including 20 bags of maize, 20 bags of guinea corn, and 5 bags of beans—was presented in collaboration with the Niger State government and emergency agencies.

CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, represented by Vice President Rev. Dr. Stephen Baba Panya, expressed deep sorrow over the devastation caused by the floods, which led to loss of lives, destruction of homes, and displacement of families.

Okoh emphasized the donation as a gesture of solidarity and urged collective responsibility to support affected communities.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers for healing and restoration,” he said, citing Psalm 46:1.

The Permanent Secretary of Niger State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Barrister Mairo Man, received the items and assured proper distribution to flood victims.

She also highlighted the state government’s efforts, including the release of ₦1 billion to aid relief operations, which helped close 90% of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Mokwa.

Mairo noted that affected individuals have received ₦500,000 each, while families of flood victims were given ₦1 million.

The presentation was attended by officials from the Niger State Emergency Management Agency and other humanitarian partners, reinforcing ongoing efforts to assist flood-affected communities.
