An environmental advocacy body, Climate Africa Media Initiative Center (CAMIC) has called on communities, businesses, and governments to adopt effective recycling practices as a way to reducing waste and promoting environmental sustainability.
It suggested paper, plastic gas organic waste, E-Waste, and textile recycling as ways to reduce waste creation.
This comes as the advocacy body reiterated its commitment to raising awareness and providing education on the importance of recycling.
The body, in a statement released on Monday, said it believe that by adopting recycling method, businesses, offices, communities can play a pivotal role in reducing waste, conserving natural resources, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The statement signed by CAMIC Chief Growth Officer, Pius Alabi, cited reports showing annual volume of waste generated in sub-Saharan AAfricato have increased from 81 million tonnes to 174 million tonnes per year between 2012 and 2016 and is projected to reach 269 million tonnes in 2030.
The statement reads: “As part of ongoing efforts to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability, we are encouraging communities, businesses, and governments to adopt effective recycling practices.
“We urge individuals, businesses, and governments to take action by implementing these recycling practices in their daily routines and operations. Together, we can create a sustainable future for Africa and the planet.”
