Bush Burning Pollutes The Environment In Bayelsa

Widespread bush burning for the new farming season in Bayelsa State has been attributed to be the cause of health implication for residents particularly for those in the riverine area of a the state where bush burning is prevalent.

In the past couple of weeks, residents have been complaining about clogged smoke in the atmosphere, and pollution of the environment.

They complained that the clogged smoke in the atmospherekson is disturbing and chocking and that it would have health implications for them.

A concerned resident, Amaebi Jackson said that the heavy dustin the air and smoke from rampant bush burning affected visibility on land and poor visibility in the riverine enclave.

He said: ”many people are now using face marks because of the smoke and dust in the air. Travellinf by boat this time of the year is risky because of the heavy blanket of smoke along the creek and waterways.”

In response to the development, the State Government, through the Commissioner for Environment, Iselema Gbaranbiri, inagurated a 13-member committee headed by Akpoebi Agberebi, to complimets government'[s efforts in maintainig safe, healthy and sanitized environment across the state.
