Blue Economy: Minister Advocates for Collaborative Solutions in Maritime Sector

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has called for partnerships among relevant stakeholders to find innovative solutions to the challenges in the maritime sector.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring the oceans and marine environments are safe, reliable, and sustainable, as they hold the key to sustainable economic growth, environmental preservation, technology, and innovation.

Oyetola made this call while resuming his duties at the federal Ministry of Transportation in Abuja.

He expressed his commitment to contributing to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the Marine and Blue Economy sector.

The Minister highlighted the significance of effective collaboration to achieve common goals, emphasizing the efficiency and effectiveness of teamwork.

He stated, “I must say that I am privileged to join this amazing team as the team leader. I want you to know that I am here to support you, to listen to your ideas, and to champion the growth of our marine resources. Together, we shall embark on a journey that holds immense promise and responsibility.”

He further stressed his vision for responsible management and utilization of marine resources to benefit both the economy and the planet.

Oyetola cited experts who estimate the global Blue Economy to be worth more than 1.5 trillion dollars per year and emphasized Nigeria’s potential to be a significant player in this sector.

The Minister outlined his plans to ensure the effective utilization of inland rivers, lakes, and waterways for cargo shipment and passenger transportation. This includes a comprehensive dredging campaign to make these waterways navigable for the passage of goods and people.

He also emphasized the need for better inter-agency cooperation and coordination within the maritime sector.

Mr. Oyetola, drawing from his private sector background, expressed his commitment to promoting greater private sector inclusion and fostering efficiency through specialization and delineation of core duties between units.

He sees this opportunity as a platform for positive change, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.

The Minister’s call for collaboration and sustainable development in the maritime sector reflects the government’s commitment to harnessing the potential of Nigeria’s blue economy for economic growth and environmental preservation.
